Dr. Yu brings with him a wealth of industrial experience from the manufacturing, technology research and product development, as well as expertise in patent, trademark, registered design and other forms of Intellectual Property (IP). Dr. Yu focuses on developing IP assets and managing IP portfolios that are in line with clients’ business strategies and technology roadmaps. He has knowledge and skills in dealing with IP related matters mainly for Singapore, mainland China, Taiwan, United States, Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, India, Malaysia, Vietnam and other South East Asian countries.

Dr. Yu obtained PhD in Engineering from The University of Birmingham in UK. His research topic covers electromagnetism, fluid dynamics and thermodynamics. Besides being a Bachelor’s Degree graduate in electronics, mechatronics and robotics from Shanghai University, Dr. Yu is also holding a Graduate Diploma from the Shanghai Institute of Technology in metallurgical machinery.

Dr. Yu has developed his career path in patent, trademark and registered design business since 2005. He handles cases of diverse technology fields with various business backgrounds. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in computer science, semiconductor engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical/electronic engineering, optics and nanotechnology. He has also filed and prosecuted many trademark applications in domestic, regional and international trademark applications.

Prior to joining the IP industry, Dr. Yu worked as a Senior Research and Development (R&D) Engineer for about 5 years with a renowned multinational corporation in Singapore. Besides developing new products and technologies, he was also involved in competitor analysis, technology evaluation, patent mapping and prior art search.

Dr. Yu is currently a member of the examination committee for the Singapore Patent Agents Qualifying Examination and also an adjunct lecturer for Intellectual property law.
